Primrose Promises — FAQs

Here at Primrose Promises, we understand how special your flowers are — whether they’re from a wedding, a memorial, or a meaningful bouquet. Below, you’ll find answers to the most commonly questions about the flower preservation process. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, feel free to get in touch.

Q: Which flowers can I send to be preserved in resin?

A: You can send most real flowers — we work beautifully with roses, sunflowers, gypsophila and more. That said, some flowers change more than others. Very delicate or fleshy blooms (like lilies or certain orchids) can be more challenging. Berries will likely turn black during the drying process so depending on the main colour of your flowers, I tend to leave these out.

If you’re unsure whether your bouquet will work, please just ask — I’m happy to advise.

Q: How do I prepare or dry my flowers before sending them?

A: It’s very important that your flowers are dry — do not leave them out in the rain or mist the petals. Any remaining moisture can cause discoloration & browning during the drying process.  If you are wanting to air dry your flowers before passing them onto me, please hang flowers upside down in a dark, dry spot for 3-4 weeks.

Please check out my ‘Postage and Shipping’ page for top tips on how’s best to package your flowers if you’re posting them to me.

Q: Will my flowers look exactly the same once preserved?

A: Not always — this is part of what makes resin preservation so magical. Flowers often change colour slightly during drying and after casting. For example:

• Whites often turn cream or antique-toned.

• Reds may darken to burgundy or deep purple.

• Some petals may become semi-transparent or develop clear patches.

These natural shifts are part of the resin art process and give each piece its own character.

Q: What happens during the resin process?

A: Here’s a simple breakdown:

1. I pour a base layer of resin into the mould.

2. I carefully place your dried flowers into place.

3. I pour additional layers of resin to fully encapsulate them.

4. I gently use a heat tool to reduce air bubbles and help the resin settle.

5. The piece then cures (hardens) fully, forming a permanent keepsake.

Q: What about tiny air bubbles in the resin — will there be any?

A: Yes, some micro-bubbles are likely to be seen and completely normal — they often appear around delicate petals.

We take great care to minimise them (slow mixing, popping with cocktail stick, careful pouring, and gentle heat), but a few may remain — and that’s totally part of the hand-crafted charm.

Q: How long will my resin preserved flowers last?

A: With good care, your piece can last for many, many years. But:

• Resin can gently amber over time, especially with constant exposure to sunlight.

• The petals inside may fade or shift tone slightly as well.

To keep your piece looking its best, we recommend displaying it away from direct sunlight and high heat.

Q: How should I look after my finished resin keepsake?

A: Here’s a simple care guide:

• Use a soft, clean cloth to gently dust it.

• If you need to clean, use a very mild soap and water — avoid harsh chemicals or alcohol.

• Avoid placing it somewhere very hot (or leaving hot items on it), as resin can soften or warp with extreme heat.

Q: Can I include something special like a ribbon, charm, or photograph inside the piece?

A: Absolutely. I love when clients bring sentimental items like ribbons, charms, or little keepsakes. Just bear in mind: different materials react differently with resin. So, if you have something specific you’d like to embed, please let us know and we’ll advise you on what works best. Ribbon will slightly darken in the resin; as if dipped in water. If you would like a photograph included in your piece, please laminate it beforehand.

Q: What if I don’t like how the final piece turns out?

A: Because every piece is handmade and one-of-a-kind, there will always be some natural variation. That’s the beauty of it.
